What a great time we had last night. ”We’re all in this Together” was a fantastic challenge to each of us to take responsibility to reach into our world and so something…..to touch another life with the message of hope and value that God places upon humanity. Bringing justice to a world where injustice is evidenced.
Here’s a couple of stats to think about:
- Every year 10 million children under the age of 5 die of hunger and malnutrition. More than the entire country of Sweden.
- There are 250,000 children serving as child soldiers.
- Every year, 2 million children die because they don’t have access to good water or sanitation. More than the population of New Mexico.
- The current slum dweller population is 1 billion. This represents a third of the world’s population. There are 11 million homeless children in India alone.
- Right now, 1 in 6 children in the world are engaged in child labour.
- Every day, 26,000 children die because they are sick suffering mainly from preventable disease. That’s the equivalent of 62 jumbo jets crashing.
- Right now, 101 million children of primary school age are out of school.
- 4 children die every 30 seconds of hunger.
Joel Houston expressed the one thing we have in common with our world is that we are all living in the same moment. It’s what we do with the moment and how we respond to the moment that counts.
The story of Jesus is the greatest story of injustice but yet, the greatest act of love.
“The church exists for those outside of it.” William Tyndale
